Shopware has set itself the goal of being fully prepared before the statutory deadline of the EAA. This allows shop owners to make the necessary adjustments without any time pressure. We are therefore already working hard on the areas that change our theme compared to the Shopware standard in order to meet the legal requirements.
Accessibility improvements are introduced in regular minor versions, similar to other improvements or bug fixes. We implement all accessibility improvements in the current major version 4.x and its minor versions. There are no plans for a major "accessibility release" that will deliver all accessibility improvements at once. The theme should meet accessibility requirements by version 5.x at the latest.
We currently meet most of the WCAG 2.1 AA requirements and are committed to closing any gaps as quickly as possible. As things stand, however, we already meet all accessibility requirements according to Google Page Speed. You can see it for yourself live and directly at the following link:
Please note that individual theme settings, such as changes to text contrast, can affect this score. To check your store's accessibility, you can use accessibility checker tools.
It should be noted, however, that a theme is merely an extension for the Shopware storefront. This means that when implementing accessibility, not all areas can be covered by the theme.
It should also be noted that other extensions also have an impact on accessibility and not all components can be attributed to a theme.
As described above, many accessibility adjustments will be automatically implemented via our theme updates. However, some accessibility adjustments require structural changes on both Shopware and our theme. To ensure smooth implementation, these breaking changes are hidden behind a so-called feature flag, which you can activate in Shopware 6.6. This feature flag is also supported and used by Zenit Design Themes in the current versions. In Shopware 6.7, all adjustments currently hidden behind this feature flag will be immediately active.
The official instructions for activating this Frature flag can be found in the Shopware documentation at
The theme itself only contributes partially to your store's accessibility. Ideally, you should use both the latest version of the theme and the most recent version of Shopware. Similar to SEO and page speed, user-generated content plays a crucial role – themes have only limited influence on this.
With Zenit Design Themes, we offer you an accessible foundation, but some aspects are within your control. These include sufficient color contrast, accessible audio and video content, and understandable communication.
To help you get the most out of your shop, you will find valuable tips and instructions on the following subpages on how to optimally implement accessibility in conjunction with our theme.
